Here is a list of 6 reasons why online business`s fail and what you should`tn be doing.

1. No Research

This is a common failure point, people don’t bother to do their research into the products they are going to be selling. You need to be thorough and see what your competition is up to in your chosen niche.

2. No Ending

This is also very common. People will come up with an idea and set up their website but that’s it they have no idea where to go with it from their.

3. No Reason

You will see this a lot when you visit websites people place their products and you simply cant see why you purchase it. You need your content to be unique and persuasive.

4. No Out Of The Box Thinking

Everybody can do the obvious when it comes to promoting a website but you need to think out side the box and find new and creative ways to promote as well.

5. No Squeeze

A lot of webmasters will build up huge amounts of subscribers to their newsletter and then fail to ever send them one. If you have one use it regularly.

6. Not Got A Clue

How many times have you come across a person that has purchased a website and then just sat back done nothing and wondered why their was no money coming in. This is the biggest killer of online business`s and something i have seen a lot even from sites that i have sold and the new owner comes back to me 2-3 months later complaing of no money.

When asked what they have been doing to promote the website you get the same old response `well errmm nothing………`

Online Marketing Tips from TopRank

Below is a list of our favorite online marketing tips , which - as a team - makes us stronger than each individual.

  • Build Out Social Relationships Gradually - Social media and social networking are not “dump and run” tactics. Relationships need to be built over a long period of time in a venue that enhances the product or service you are promoting, which is when the promoted piece gets the most positive attention.
  • Spell Check – Nothing ruins online credibility faster than misspellings or incorrect grammar. Check your spelling yourself and have someone else review your work. Don’t depend only on spellcheckers, as they may not catch the appropriate word usage or necessary punctuation.
  • Understand How Your KPI’s Tie Back to Your Objectives - Will ranking #1 in Google for “wedding favors” automatically equate to meeting your sales objectives? Or, will an increased ranking be a trigger to focus your work on how best to nurture these new potential prospects to customer status?
  • Incorporate Keyword Phrases into Promotions – whether it be press releases, online advertising or social media promotions, using a keyword phrase along with yours or your client’s name can enhance how searchers search for the website in the future.

  • Use a Clear CTA - When using a Call to Action, ensure that what you are asking is clear and to the point. Also ensure that you are indeed asking a person to do something.
  • Identify Yourself - Come up with a good handle and avatar so that no matter what channel you are engaged in, you are easily recognizable.
  • Identify How Visitors Use Your Website - When customers and prospects visit your site, what type of content are they looking for and where do they click on the page to find it? By knowing what your visitors are looking for, you can provide the content they need and a user experience to keep them coming back for more.
  • Understand your End Goals – Online marketing is similar to traditional direct marketing when trying to reach certain inquiry levels. Understand the desired inquiry level, and follow that back through your amount of projected traffic, touchpoints and the whole universe you need to target.
  • Plan & Understand - Be sure to plan ahead when it comes to Online Marketing. There is no shortage of promotion opportunities, however the promotions you select should deliver the desired results. As an online marketer, be sure to first understand what promotion channels deliver the results desired.
  • Look to the Future - The online marketing landscape is constantly changing, whether in the form of updated search engine algorithms, new social media outlets or any of the other aspects of marketing that fluctuate. Devote time to keeping yourself educated on what’s new and upcoming in the online world by reading blogs and other industry publications so that you are prepared to meet the new challenges these changes will bring.
  • Be Patient – online marketing typically doesn’t work overnight. Once your online marketing program is deployed, be patient and continuously monitor, analyze and refine.

Valuable and Useful Information to Boost your Internet Marketing Career

The impact of the Internet on the perceived value of information is just as huge as anybody would ever think. Undoubtedly, Internet changed the way people learn and search for useful information. Before the arrival of the Internet culture, individuals who are looking for some valuable and useful information would be congregating themselves in classrooms, public libraries, bookstores, and magazine stands because these are the places where such information could be found.

However, it’s been about ten years since the Internet became accessible to the public and the difference it made has been gigantic.

The impact is drastic enough that the Internet changed the typical procedure of searching for information that has existed since the civilization era. If you want to learn the life of Florence Nightingale, Christopher Columbus, or even the terrorism acts of Osama bin Laden, you do not need to take a class, read a book, or purchase newspapers everyday. You can Yahoo or Google these personalities, and if you are savvy enough, you will be able to find a website that is dedicated to the study of these personalities.

Through the Internet, such valuable and useful information is readily accessible. In addition, retrieval of information is free. You do not have to suffer purchasing Da Vinci Code for several dollars cheaper than what you would have to pay in a brick and mortar bookstore. The search and retrieval of the manuscript of the book is instantaneous (in short, instant!), no wasting of time, and definitely there is no need to spend for transportation.

In other words, searching and retrieving information on the Internet is cost-free, except the purchase of your personal computer (if you do not have any) and the Internet connection fee.

Almost every kind of information could be found on the Internet, historical accounts, answers to personal problems, and information about business opportunities. In other words, every online-based business opportunity related information can be accessed through the Internet.

Nothing more, nothing else. Why purchase marketing strategy books or business newspapers if all information that you need is stored on the Internet and can be read for free.

However, unlike other information on the Internet, information related to Internet marketing are not entirely for free. In fact, there are marketing gurus who sell such information to Internet marketing neophytes.

The basics of success on Internet marketing starts with learning the basics of this lucrative industry. Such basics could be learned through various Internet marketing-related information scattered over the Web. If you want to acquire information that is proven to be useful for your online business, definitely you will purchase such information from different Internet marketing gurus.

To get the real worth of your money, you can look for the following categories of valuable and useful information for your online business outlined below:

• The content of the information package must be controlled and distributed by licensed and well-known personalities on Internet marketing. Verify the individual behind the personality—check if he is really a marketing genius or not. With so many ‘bogus gurus’ out there, there is a need to check on your information resources first before handing out money.

• Such information must be on its updated status. What is the use of information gathered in 1980 on a 2006 market? Ask for some sample excerpts or initial information that you can see for yourself if it is updated or not.

• Look for the “money back guarantee” condition of paid information. If you are not satisfied by the results or the results are not what you expect, you can have your money back. There are many experienced Internet marketers who are willing to give your money back if you are not satisfied with the information you have acquired.

If you cannot afford to purchase premium information sold by different Internet marketers over the Web, you can still look for free information. You may visit different article directories over the Internet that publishes hundreds to thousands of articles related to Internet marketing.

Some of these articles are written by the Internet marketing gurus themselves, thus you are assured that the information is valuable and can be applied to your online business. There are also business sites wherein they give away free information guides that you can use for your Internet marketing career. Just be resourceful and creative enough to locate this free yet useful information.

The Internet is the information superhighway—whether free or paid information, make sure that these will help you learn the ideas and basic strategies to make your Internet marketing career a successful one.

7 Basic Rules for Internet Marketing

Internet marketing strategies involve driving targeted (people who are interested in what you have to offer) traffic to your website, blog, or sales page.

That traffic then has to be converted into sales. This simple formula illustrates this process:

Traffic + Conversions = Sales

Keeping this formula in your mind will help you in your internet marketing efforts because you will realize that you not only have to generate traffic, but also turn those visitors into buyers.

Furthermore, here are 7 basic rules to follow when applying this formula. These rules are relevant to all forms of marketing but are especially important for online marketing where inexperienced people can “burn” a lot of money quickly and become very discouraged.

1. All marketing involves RISK.

Whether you are trying something new or “copying” a strategy that has brought good results for others, there is still an element of risk.

When speaking of risk, you tend to think of gambling which makes for an appropriate analogy here.

For internet marketing, we try to reduce the risk and swing the odds in our favour by doing keyword research, learning skills like ad writing, article marketing, and pay per click, and other general marketing activities such as knowing what your target market is interested in.

2. Test small first.

Reduce your risk by testing a marketing approach on a small scale first. If it works, then increase the scale and create momentum.

This is how to make money!

3. Be consistent.

Successful marketers do something to propel themselves forward everyday. That is their secret.

A good practice is to create a to-do list every night featuring 5 actions that you must complete the following day.

By doing this at night before you go to sleep, you engage your subconscious mind and the next day you will know what you have to do and be on target to complete these tasks.

This is a very powerful process. Try to do this, one day at a time, until it becomes a daily habit.

4. Set a budget.

Determine what you can afford to spend on advertising on a monthly basis. In this way you can set and manage your expectations.

This should also prevent you from trying things you cannot afford.

5. Diversify.

Spread your efforts as much as you can over many different sources. This will also reduce your risk and help you to discover what works.

Remember that if one internet marketing method that you try does not produce results, you have not failed. This just means that you are one step closer to finding something that DOES work.

6. Learn how to write effective copy.

The skill that will make or break you in internet marketing is copywriting.

It is especially important to learn how to write headlines. There is a ton of good information online that is free regarding headlines and copywriting. Just do a Google search.

7. Take action, test, and track.

Tracking is essential because you absolutely need to know the results of your marketing efforts.

Once you start getting results, you can employ simple tests to see if you can improve. Often this testing involves strategies that are free.

One such strategy that comes to mind is split testing. You can do this for free, and it can provide incredible returns. Generally speaking, split testing involves making slight changes to a landing page or adwords ad, often just the wording of the headline, and testing it against a current version.

I have seen very simple changes DOUBLE the productivity of an ad. It’s not only amazing, but also a lot of fun! Marketing takes work. You simply cannot get something for nothing. Massive action creates massive results.

So take action and do not be afraid to fail. Remember to minimize your risk.
